Man Who Released Cruise Ship Anchor Faces Up To 20 Years in Prison

Forty-four year old Rick Ehlert faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000 for releasing the rear anchor of a moving cruise ship.

On Saturday, November 27, Ehlert allegedly entered a restricted area onboard Holland America’s RYNDAM, where he released the ships rear anchor. The 1,260 passenger cruise ship was travelling from Tampa to Costa Maya, Mexico when the incident occurred.

Ehlert has told authorities that he was drunk and that the release was similar to the anchor release on his 50-foot yacht.

MOL, Vale Sign Long-term Transport Contract for 2 VLOCs

TOKYO - Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL; President: Koichi Muto) today announced the signing of a long-term transport contract with Vale International SA, a subsidiary of Vale S.A. for two very large ore carriers (VLOCs) on November 18. Two 300,000 DWT-class newbuilding vessels, which will be constructed at Universal Shipbuilding Corporation and slated for completion in 2012 and 2013, will serve the Vale-China shuttle service, transporting iron ore for 25 years.

Board Votes to Cancel Lease of Philadelphia Cruise Terminal

In 2006, with a cruise calendar of 36 ships, the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal was bustling with activity. Today, with only two cruises slated for 2011 the Delaware River Port Authority’s Executive Committee took the prudent step to end DRPA’s role in the cruise business. The full Board is expected to vote on this measure at its December 15th meeting.

If approved, effective January 1, 2011, DRPA’s lease of the cruise terminal building located in the Philadelphia Navy Yard will be canceled. This move will provide the Authority an immediate savings of $627,000 in operating expenses. In addition, $18 million in future capital improvements to enhance the terminal will no longer be necessary. ...
